It is located 21 km north of the city of Shabla, 66 km east of the city of Dobrich, 100 km northeast of Varna and about 540 km in the same direction from Sofia.

The village is the most northeastern Black Sea settlement in the country, located 5 km from the border with Romania and only 2 km from the sea coast.

The altitude is 26 m. The climate is characterized by hot summers and cold winters with stormy winds.
The population numbers about 400 people. There is regular bus transport to the cities of Shabla and Varna, as well as to the neighboring towns.

Electricity and water supply systems have been built in the village. It has mobile operator coverage. A town hall, a primary school, a full-day kindergarten and a temple built in 1936 function here. There are shops and restaurants, as well as several guest houses. Medical care is provided by a general practitioner, there is an emergency center in the city of Shabla. The nearest hospital is on the territory of Kavarna / 40 km/.
Tourism and attractions:

Durankulak is a preferred destination for summer recreation due to its remoteness from major seaside resorts. At the same time, the two beaches of the village have wonderful sand with a total length of about 10 km. Camping "Cosmos" is located between the southern and northern beaches. A tourist center is located about a kilometer south of the village, which offers accommodation for tourists.
About 1 km away is the Durankulash lake. It is a well-known place for ornithologists, as many wading and waterfowl nest, winter or stay there during their migrations. The lake is also the only proven locality of wild carp in Bulgaria. Durankulash Lake has been declared a protected natural area.
